Good People does not sell bottles, correct?

Postby MadisonU on Tue Jun 23, 2009 5:37 pm

Hey, I'm from Birmingham Weekly, and I'm trying to write a post about the whole GP growler thing and the fact that you can take home some GP Snake Handler from Dee's Package Store nowadays.

Am I correct in thinking that GP does not sell beer in bottles? And if so, is that a business decision (not enough capacity, for instance) or is that due to some law that I lack knowledge of (I've checked @ http://www.freethehops.org/restrictions/ but I don't think the brewpub or brewery laws, as silly and arbitary as they may be, are the problem)?

Also, does GP plan on continuing to sell the growlers after June 25 if the response to the pre-order was/is good?

Jason will be along to provide all the specifics he's willing to make public. A big part of it is the space issue. His brewery is tiny. He has purchased some small bottling equipment that will make for some labor-intensive bottling, but last i heard there was artwork issues with the labels. Hopefully they'll be in select stores before too much longer.

Anyway, get it first hand from Jason.

GPbrewing (Jason) may stop by to respond himself, but it's discussed here.

In a nutshell, time and space - they're still a small but growing operation, and packaging is in the works.

Correct, we are not currently bottling and it's simply because of limitations due to the size of our current brewery. We are hoping we can work something out in the near future.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll have a few extras to sell after the 25th. I would also think we will place another big order (similar to how we are doing this current one) in the future.

Great article. The only thing is that Dee's does not currently fill the glass growlers. Only the plastic milk jugs. They might be able to do so in the future but do not currently do so. I am not sure how actively they are pursuing this but the main issue is being able to seal them correctly to verify they have not been opened. It isn't a hard issue to fix but I am sure they want to make sure everything is in the clear

When we went to Dark Lord Day we stopped off at the Liquor Barn (tangent: best. beer store. name. evar.) and we got growlers. they sealed them with some kind of tape (looked like electrical tape). I don't see why Dee's cannot do the same thing.
I Believe in Birmingham and so should you.
