Legislative session starts January 12

I know it’s been a little quiet around here. The best excuse I can give is that all of the Free the Hops leadership are volunteers. When there’s no major event to be planned or a legislative session going on, we try our best to convince our family, friends, bosses and/or subordinates that we can put as much energy into the other parts of our lives as we put into beer.

In a week, however, the mad dash known as the 30 legislative days begins again. We have proposed a comprehensive reform of the brewery and brewpub laws in Alabama, and we will be pushing that with the same energy that you’ve come to expect.

What five counties had breweries prior to 1919?

I THINK it’s: Russell, Lee (because it was formed from Russell), Mobile, Jefferson, Tuscaloosa, and Madison. Since Lee County was approved by the ABC Board, maybe that makes 6 counties that can now have a brewpub.

      Let’s see –
      1. Mobile
      Currently has a brewpub
      2. Lee
      Currently has a brewpub
      3. Russell
Had breweries in Phenix City in the 1800s
      4. Jefferson
Had a brewpub after the Brewpub Act was passed
      5. Tuscaloosa
Had a brewpub after the Brewpub Act was passed
      6. Madison
Seems like I read somewhere that this was on the “approved” list but I’m not sure.

Well Henry, I’m all messed up because Montgomery County currently has a brewpub so it must be included.

Basically I have no idea. :)
